Job Description
Accountant 3 (PCN 060613) – The Department of Health welcomes applicants residing in Alaska to join our division. This position is exempt from the hiring freeze and is open exclusively to Alaskan residents. The role supports the Department's financial management of federal programs.
Responsibilities- Federal Program Oversight & Compliance:
Manage assigned federal programs, ensuring compliance with grant requirements, financial regulations, and reporting deadlines. - Financial Reporting & Budget Auditing:
Prepare, review, and audit program budgets, ensuring accuracy, proper allocation of funds, and adherence to financial guidelines. - Program Evaluations & Audits:
Represent the division during federal program evaluations and audits, providing financial documentation and addressing compliance inquiries. - Grant & Fund Management:
Track expenditures, monitor fund utilization, and ensure efficient use of federal funds within approved budgets and policies. - Collaboration & Process Improvement:
Work with program managers and leadership to enhance financial reporting processes, improve internal controls, and support data-driven decision making.

Minimum Qualifications- Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology to access, collect, analyze, maintain, disseminate data and information.
- Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage situations by drawing on knowledge, experience, and resources.
- Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information clearly and convincingly, listening and responding appropriately.
- Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, double-entry, accrual accounting, full accounting cycle, and preparation of worksheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
- Technical Competence: Uses knowledge acquired through training or on-the-job experience to perform job duties, understand technical information, and advise others.
Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible professional-level experience in accounting, budgeting or financial management.
