Position: Accountant 4 (02-1086)

Job Description

This position is open for State of Alaska Employees Only.

What You Will Be Doing

The Accountant 4 is a senior member of the Department of Administration's fiscal team with a key role in keeping department-wide accounting work accurate, timely, and on track. A major focus of this position is oversight of Reimbursable Service Agreements (RSAs), including monitoring RSA activity, coordinating the RSA desk, following up on outstanding items, and ensuring agreements are properly established, billed, collected, amended, and closed throughout the fiscal year.

You will provide guidance and training to fiscal staff, use IRIS and ALDER to identify issues before they become year-end problems, and help establish consistent accounting practices across the department. The position also reviews and certifies financial transactions, resolves complex accounting issues, and monitors recurring fiscal and year-end requirements. As a senior member of the Fiscal Section, you will supervise staff and provide backup and technical support across critical fiscal functions.

Our

Organization, Mission, and Culture

The Division of Administrative Services provides budget, accounting, financial, IT, and administrative support that helps the Department of Administration's programs successfully serve state agencies and Alaskans. Our Fiscal Section works collaboratively with accountants and administrative staff throughout the department, providing guidance and developing solutions rather than simply identifying problems. We value accountability, continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and strong partnerships across divisions.

The

Benefits of Joining Our Team

This position gives you the opportunity to take ownership of important fiscal processes that affect programs throughout the Department of Administration. You will have the independence to identify problems, improve processes, develop staff, and help move our RSA program from year-end cleanup toward consistent monitoring throughout the year. You will work with a small fiscal team and build relationships with division staff, and the Division of Finance.

The variety of work provides opportunities to expand your knowledge of statewide accounting, financial systems, reporting, and fiscal operations while serving as a senior resource for others. Flexible work arrangements, including part-time telework, may be available consistent with division policy.

The Working Environment You Can Expect

The position is located on the 10th floor of the State Office Building in downtown Juneau, with views of Douglas Island and Gastineau Channel, and works closely with fiscal and leadership staff located throughout the state. The work is collaborative and fast-paced, with regular interaction through Microsoft Teams, telephone, email, and in-person meetings; part-time telework may be available consistent with division policy (2 days in office per week).
