Emergency Management Specialist 2
Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM), Branch of State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) is recruiting for an Emergency Management Specialist 2.
This position is in the General Government (GGU) Bargaining Unit at range 16. It is open to Alaska Residents only. Please check our Definition FAQ to determine if you qualify.
What You Will Be DoingThe new DHS&EM team member will play a vital role in the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), assisting with emergency warning, disaster response, incident management, and community outreach to enhance state preparedness and resilience during natural and man‑made disasters. Their responsibilities include conducting pre‑emergency planning, supporting community engagement initiatives, and participating in programs focused on disaster preparedness, recovery, and mitigation, ensuring a coordinated and effective response to emergencies.
Minimum Qualifications- One year of entry professional level experience mitigating against, preparing for, responding to, or recovering from emergencies, disasters, or terrorist events. The required experience is met by service as an Emergency Management Specialist 1 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
- OR two years of entry professional level experience either creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating the recovery from such events.
- OR a bachelor's degree, in any field, from an accredited college; AND one year of entry professional level experience either creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating the recovery from such events.
- One valid Alaska driver’s license is required.
- Some positions require the incumbent to obtain a federal security clearance.
- Work may require periodic, 24‑hour on‑call duty and travel to remote locations in small aircraft and boats, and may involve exposure to inherently hazardous or potentially dangerous environmental conditions.
