Job Description
The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land & Water, is recruiting for a Natural Resource Specialist 1/2 in Anchorage. This position is open to Alaska residents only. Please review our residency definition to determine if you qualify.
What You Will Be DoingAdjudicate and manage easements on and across public lands, including public access and R.S. 2477 historic trails. Work as part of a dynamic team of land managers to make decisions that facilitate access to and use of state land. The Natural Resource Specialist 1/2 Flex oversees land‑use authorizations and the management of state lands in alignment with public interests.
Mission And Values / CultureThe position is housed in the Division of Mining, Land, and Water (DMLW), within the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The DNR mission is to "develop, conserve and maximize the use of Alaska's natural resources consistent with the public interest." The DMLW mission is "to provide for the appropriate use and management of Alaska's state‑owned land and water, aiming toward maximum use consistent with the public interest."
The Easement Unit supports these missions by facilitating economic growth consistent with the public interest and working frequently with local utilities, the Department of Transportation, trail user groups, and private individuals.

Working EnvironmentLocated on the ninth floor of the Robert
B. Atwood building in downtown Anchorage, the office has a positive atmosphere geared toward collaboration and teamwork. It offers a beautiful view of the Chugach Mountain Range and free parking. Standard business hours are 8:00 AM‑5:00 PM Monday–Friday, with a 7.5‑hour daily schedule and options for an alternate work‑week schedule and part‑time remote work.

Starting Salary $26.66
Any combination of education and/or experience providing competencies listed above is acceptable.
Equivalent to typically gained by: education from an accredited college and/or experience in natural resource management.
Natural Resource Specialist 2Starting Salary $30.62

Equivalent to typically gained by: education in a natural resource field (e.g., forestry, geology, agronomy, hydrology), public administration, planning, economics, cartography, or a closely related field, and/or professional‑level experience in natural resource management.
