Job Description

The Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA), Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHS&EM), Community Planning Team is recruiting for an Emergency Management Specialist
2. This position is in the General Government (GGU) bargaining unit at a range 16. This position is open to Alaska Residents only. Please checkout our Definition FAQ to determine if you qualify.

What You Will Be Doing

As the newest member of the DHS&EM's Community Planning team, you will play a critical role in supporting all 19 Alaska boroughs by coordinating with Local Emergency Planning Committees (LEPCs) to provide technical assistance for emergency planning. You will have the opportunity to plan, manage, and facilitate biannual Local Emergency Planning Committee Association (LEPCA) meetings. You will also support the Community Planning Team in advancing emergency planning initiatives at both the state and local levels.

During activations of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC), you will perform assigned duties in support of emergency response operations.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of entry professional level experience mitigating against, preparing for, responding to, or recovering from emergencies, disasters, or terrorist events. The required experience is met by service as an Emergency Management Specialist 1 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR

Two years of entry professional level experience either creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating the recovery from such events.

OR

A bachelor's degree, in any field, from an accredited college; AND one year of entry professional level experience either creating contingency plans, conducting exercises to evaluate plans and training, responding to events creating civil disruption or environmental disturbance, or coordinating the recovery from such events.
