What You Will Be DoingUnder general direction, the incumbent performs timely and accurate technical duties related to Alaska Care Eligibility using prescribed methods in compliance with statute and standard operating procedures. The incumbent also performs duties related to Active and Retiree Alaska Care members, utilizing plan booklets, bargaining unit contracts, and payroll resources to determine eligibility.
The incumbent provides in‑depth information and explanations to members and employers regarding applicable statutes and processes, active and retiree health eligibility issues, and optional benefits. Due to the cyclical nature of the work, the incumbent must have adequate working knowledge of and occasionally perform duties in other program areas including Disability & Appeal Services, Retirement Customer Service Center, Survivor Benefits, and Retirement Processing.

The Working Environment You Can ExpectYour daily work environment includes diverse technical work carried out alongside another technician, aiding the public by phone or written communication, and collaborating with teammates and managers to ensure successful productivity. The workspace is a standard office environment located on the sixth floor of the State Office Building in downtown Juneau. Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

- Six months of experience as a Retirement and Benefits Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or equivalent elsewhere.
- Six months of entry‑level technical experience that required applying basic knowledge of a retirement program, benefits program, human resources policy, or labor relations guidelines, or in preparing, receiving, reviewing, and processing health, life, or disability insurance claims or payments, or processing budgetary or financial documents. “Processing” means responsibility for performing basic calculations and ensuring accuracy of the information and compliance with policy and guidelines.
Equivalent to Human Resource Technician 1, Administrative Assistant 1, Insurance Licensing Examiner 1, PFD Technician 2, Eligibility Technician 1, and Accounting Technician 1 with the State of Alaska or equivalent elsewhere. - One year of advanced clerical experience in an office environment where the work supported technical or…
