In this position, you will be part of the statewide Public Assistance Eligibility Team. Together, we will help Alaskan families, elders, and those in need reach higher levels of independence and self-sufficiency. Eligibility Technicians assist the public by connecting them to a variety of public assistance programs and services our agency provides.

This position joins a statewide eligibility workflow team in local Public Assistance offices across the state.
The ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following position-specific competencies in addition to the minimum qualifications listed below:
- Eligibility Determinations:
Knowledge of federal and/or state government or public assistance benefit regulations, policies, and procedures required to evaluate financial, personal, medical, and household information to determine program eligibility, authorize benefits, and maintain case records within mandatory time frames. - Arithmetic/Mathematical Reasoning:
Performs computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division correctly; solves practical problems by choosing appropriately from a variety of mathematical techniques such as formulas and percentages. - Interpersonal
Skills:
Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are possibly difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences. - Computer
Skills:
Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. - Attention to Detail:
Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of entry-level experience as an Eligibility Technician 1 with the State of Alaska; OR one year performing similar work that developed knowledge and skills in applying program requirements and working with client customers in stressful situations. Substitution:
Post-secondary education in such fields as sociology, social work, psychology, counseling, human services, vocational rehabilitation, developmental disabilities, behavioral sciences, business, public administration, or accounting may substitute for the required experience (undergraduate credits: 2.67 semester/4 quarter hours = 1 month).
