Job Description
The Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children's Services (OCS) is recruiting for a full-time Protective Service Specialist (1/2/3) in Sitka, Alaska or Juneau, Alaska. The position is open to Alaska Residents.
What You Will Be DoingAs a Protective Service Specialist (PSS), you will be responsible for Child Protection Services in the Family Services unit, the Investigations & Assessment unit, or as Generalist covering both. The role is based out of the Sitka Field Office or Juneau Field Office.
Key duties include:
- Investigating reports of child abuse and/or neglect.
- Preparing plans for intervention by soliciting the cooperation of family and others.
- Gathering information about family dynamics and functionality.
- Developing plans to ensure child safety while assisting parents in addressing protective factors.
- Placing children with a relative or licensed foster home when applicable.
- Providing ongoing and/or in-home services to families.
- Writing and submitting reports to court.
- Working closely with Tribal and community partners.
- Maintaining frequent face-to-face and telephonic contact with parents and caregivers of children in custody.
- Making referrals to other service providers and agencies.
Travel requirements: if working at the Sitka Field Office, travel as needed for Southeast Regional Field Office coverage. If working at the Juneau Field Office, typically alternate two weeks in the office with two weeks traveling each month.
Working EnvironmentThe role involves field-based work with possible evening and weekend hours. Travel may be frequent or minimal and could include small aircraft or overnight stays.
