Serves as a specialist in supporting, training, planning and implementing pharmacy and other related clinical applications.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the J ob

  • Implement s , support s , maintain s and document s pharmacy systems .

  • Systems that support SEARHC pharmacy services include Mediware WORx , RPMS, Script Pro , Pyxis, Quantifi , Amplifi , PickPoint , Win Pharm , Micromedex, Medi-Dose, and an in-house telepharmacy system. Reporting tools include Info Maker , Crystal Reports and SQL.

  • Related systems include Orchard Copia (Lab) and VacTrAK (State of Alaska immunization registry). Familiarity with Cerner and Meditech Expanse (Electronic Medical Record) preferred.

  • Customize s parameters ; reviews local tables, dictionaries, and templates for accuracy, completeness, and consistency ; and c oordinate s implementation of new pharmacy systems.

  • Coordinate s with other application coordinators and IT staff to implement integrated packages, resolve issues, and ensure smooth operations where functionality overlaps or is integrated with other hospital and clinic functions.

  • Work s with vendor implementation and customer support staff to validate software, identify software problems and request enhancements.

  • Log s all problems, escalating them as needed to the appropriate person or team.

  • Coordinate s efforts to correct deficiencies and errors that occur in the electronic record.

  • Provide s ongoing competency training on pharmacy systems , prepares and update s training materials , and manages user accounts .

  • Design s , generate s and monitor s reports.

  • Distinguish es between procedural issues and system/application deficiencies and creates a positive environment for reporting system deficiencies and soliciting suggestions for improvements and enhanced functionality.

  • Promote s the importance of data validity and data security.

  • Other duties as assigned .

Education , Certifications, and Licenses Required

  • RPh or Pharm

    D from an accredited school of pharmacy – required

  • Alaska State Pharmacist license – required

  • C ommissioned Officers may use license from home state

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 2 years in pharmacy applications support in the healthcare industry,
    or in direct patient care as a pharmacist – required

  • Experience in clinical informatics strongly preferred

  • Familiarity with a reporting tool such as Info Maker , Crystal Reports or SQL - preferred

  • Familiarity with HL7 messaging - preferred

Knowledge of

  • A broad range of patient care activities

  • H ospital and clinic environments and how the different s ervices and functions interact

  • Co mpliance with various regulatory agencies such as IHS, DEA, TJC, and the State Board of Pharmacy

Skills in

  • Problem solving

  • Effective interpersonal relationships and conflict resolution

Ability to

  • W ork independently and to plan, coordinate and implement projects on schedule

  • Train users effectively

  • C ommunicate effectively with peers and superiors, speak in front of groups and communicate in writing policies, procedures, me moranda and training materials

  • O perate and communicate effectively wh ile under pressure

  • S erve as a liaison between groups within the consortium as an effective member of organizational teams and in coordinating software implementation projects.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products including Word, Excel and Power Point

  • Pharmacy software applications

  • Other SEARHC provided computer applications

Required Certifications
:

Licensed Pharmacist - State of Alaska - Alaska State Board of Pharmacy
