This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 23.
This position is located in Juneau. However, this position may be relocated within Alaska with necessary approvals where infrastructure allows.
What You Will Be Doing:The Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development (DOLWD) is recruiting for an IT Security Specialist 3 to serve as the Department’s Information Security Officer (ISO) within the Systems Security Group (SSG). Within DOLWD, the ISO functions at the expert level, applying strategic guidance for information systems security and compliance. These range from simple projects and systems with well‑known security implications to large, complex projects involving multiple vendors and numerous regulatory partners.
The ISO is DOLWD’s primary lead for information security and compliance and is responsible for ensuring the Department meets mandatory legal, regulatory, and agreement‑driven security requirements through enforceable security governance, policy, audit readiness, and technical oversight across DOLWD systems. This role requires close coordination with technical and non‑technical staff within DOLWD and with external partners and oversight entities.
DOLWD operates numerous programs that process sensitive information, including Personally Identifiable Information (PII), Federal Tax Information (FTI), US DOL Employment and Training Administration (ETA), Federal Unemployment Tax Act (FUTA), Social Security Administration (SSA), Workers’ Compensation (WC), OCSS/NDNH, Treasury Offset Program (TOP), State Wage Interchange System (SWIS), Wage & Hour, Occupational Safety & Health, Wagner‑Peyser, Adult Education, Vocational Rehabilitation, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), FERPA, CJIS, HIPAA, PCI‑DSS, NACHA, and others.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:This position is stationed at the Department of Labor & Workforce Development Building in Juneau, Alaska; the building is located along the waterfront, next to the Seawalk & Overstreet Park and there is plenty of employee parking. As a member of the Administrative Services Team, you will work regularly and collaboratively with each division to meet their security and programmatic needs.
