This position is in the General Government Unit (GGU) at a Range 23 and may be relocated within Alaska with necessary approvals.

The Alaska Department of Labor & Workforce Development (DOLWD) is recruiting for an IT Security Specialist 3 to serve as the Department’s Information Security Officer (ISO) within the Systems Security Group (SSG). The ISO functions at an expert level, providing strategic guidance for information systems security and compliance. Responsibilities include overseeing security governance, policy, audit readiness, and technical oversight across DOLWD systems, and coordinating with internal staff and external partners.

• Develop, maintain, and implement IT security policies consistent with NIST 800‑53 rev 5.
• Interpret and implement agreement‑driven and regulator‑driven security requirements.
• Enforce the principle of least privilege and conduct access control reviews.
• Ensure secure configuration baselines and hardening (CIS/STIGs/SCSEMs) for all systems.
• Respond to audits, assessments, and corrective actions from regulatory partners.
• Oversee penetration testing programs and provide system/program‑specific security oversight.

  Knowledge of methods and procedures that protect availability, authentication, confidentiality, and integrity.

  Understanding of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to securing personnel, facilities, and information.
• Information Systems/Network Security

  Ability to develop security plans and prevent system vulnerabilities.

• Configuration Management:
  Planning or managing implementation, update, or integration of system components.
• Infrastructure Design:
  Understanding of software, hardware, and network architecture and integration.
• Operating Systems:
  Knowledge of desktop, server, and mainframe OS and applications.
• Systems Integration:
  Principles and methods for installing, integrating, and optimizing system components.
• Systems Testing & Evaluation:
  Methods for developing testing procedures and evaluating IT systems.

Equivalent to training in computer science, information technology, system administration, or similar, plus progressively responsible professional experience.

• Three professional references (include recent supervisor).
• Last three performance evaluations.
• Transcripts if education is used to meet qualifications.
