Job Description
The Director of Global Defense is a key leadership role that focuses on expanding and enhancing strategic defense and national security business operations. You will align your strategies with global defense priorities while navigating complex regulatory, security, and procurement landscapes. This position involves developing vital relationships with government entities, including Japan's Ministry of Defense and related agencies, and working collaboratively to shape long-term capture strategies that ensure secure delivery of mission outcomes.
ResponsibilitiesStrategically define and implement a growth strategy for defense initiatives that aligns with global objectives and the unique dynamics of the Japanese market.
Identify essential missions, agencies, and modernization programs, establishing compelling value propositions that resonate with defense stakeholders, focusing on resilience, sovereignty, and security.
Build and nurture high-level relationships with the Japan Ministry of Defense, Self-Defense Forces, and key defense primes.
Collaborate with solution architects and delivery teams to design secure and compliant solutions covering cloud, data platforms, AI/analytics, and cybersecurity.
Ensure that all proposals and delivery strategies are aligned with customer missions, local data residency requirements, and necessary accreditation pathways.
Lead engaging presentations and negotiations at the executive level with clients.
Establish strategic partnerships with Japanese defense primes, systems integrators, and technology partners to support compliant bids and delivery.
Structure teaming and subcontracting approaches that align with procurement regulations and security guidelines.
Work closely with legal, security, and compliance teams to navigate bid decisions, due diligence, and contract negotiations.
Influence global cross-functional teams to prioritize delivery timelines and requirements specific to Japan's defense landscape.
Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in defense or national security roles with significant exposure to the Japanese market.
Proficiency in Japanese is required.
In-depth knowledge of Japan's defense procurement processes, stakeholder landscape, and partner ecosystem.
Proven executive presence, capable of engaging C-level leaders and senior defense officials.
Demonstrated success in leading diverse teams and influencing cross-functional organizations with strong commercial and contractual understanding.
Advanced degree in business, engineering, international relations, or a similar field.
Experience with secure cloud solutions, mission system modernization, cybersecurity, data/AI, or enterprise platforms within defense environments.
Established network within JMOD/SDF, defense primes, and critical systems integrators.
Strong strategic thinking capabilities with a focus on disciplined execution.
Expert in stakeholder management within highly regulated environments.
Integrity and a robust compliance mindset.
Exceptional negotiation, influence, and cross-cultural leadership skills.
Expertise in risk management and operational excellence.

Range and BenefitsThe hiring range is from $109,200 to $223,400 per annum, with potential eligibility for bonuses and equity.
