Position: Division Director (Finance - 02-4001)

Position Overview

Division Director (Finance – 02-4001) – location options:
Juneau, Anchorage, or Fairbanks, AK. This position is open to Alaska Residents only. The Department of Administration seeks a strategic and experienced leader to serve as Division Director of Finance (Payroll & Accounting) overseeing payroll and accounting systems, ensuring accurate financial recording, reporting, and budgetary compliance for all State agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Lead professional teams responsible for disbursements (payroll, warrants, and charge card activity), general ledger operations, statewide financial systems, and production of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
  • Manage the State’s travel program, establish travel policies, negotiate the Statewide Cost Allocation Plan (SWCAP).
  • Serve as a key liaison with executive leadership and partner agencies, supporting transparency and compliance.
  • Guide complex statewide financial operations and help shape Alaska’s financial strategy.
Qualifications

  • Leadership:

    Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (e.g., double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
  • Oral and Written Communication:
    Expresses information (e.g., ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (e.g., technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
