Registered Nurse - Urgent Care
Location
- Juneau, Alaska
Schedule
- 40 hours per week
- Rotating days and weekends
- Provide timely, evidence-based nursing care to patients of all ages in an Urgent Care setting
- Deliver high-quality, cost-effective care using critical thinking and standing orders
- Work collaboratively with RNs, LPNs, and Clinical Assistants to ensure efficient patient flow
- Perform duties professionally and compassionately to deliver excellent patient experiences
Clinical Care & Triage
- Perform initial triage and comprehensive patient assessments
- Provide telephone triage, self-care advice, and care navigation
- Collect history of present illness, vital signs, immunization status, preventative health needs, and GPRA data
- Prioritize patient needs and manage patient flow efficiently
- Respond to emergency and urgent situations
- Administer medications via oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, and IV routes
- Initiate, maintain, monitor, and discontinue IV therapy
- Prepare and administer secondary IV medications, including mixing concentrated solutions
- Operate and monitor specialized medical equipment as ordered
- Document assessments, observations, interventions, and treatments
- Provide patient education in person and by phone
- Evaluate and document patient understanding of education provided
- Coordinate patient referrals within SEARHC and external facilities
- Track referral progress and outcomes and provide status updates to providers
- Identify and resolve delays or barriers to care
- Conduct next-day patient follow-up calls and manage outcomes appropriately
- Work collaboratively across departments and clinical teams
- Participate in clinic and department improvement initiatives
- Support ongoing development of the clinical team
- May serve as primary or secondary vaccine coordinator
- Assist in covering other nursing roles as needed to support daily operations
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-stocked clinical environment
- Monitor and report defective or missing equipment and safety hazards
- Adhere strictly to infection control policies and procedures
- Maintain all annual competencies, including safety and infection control
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible to take NCLEX
- Current unrestricted Registered Nurse license (Alaska or other U.S. state)
- Direct hires must apply for Alaska RN license prior to start date
- Agency staff must hold an active Alaska RN license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- Minimum 2 years of general nursing experience
- At least 1 year in an ambulatory care or urgent care clinic

- Age-appropriate vital signs, behaviors, and patient education

- Work independently while functioning as part of a team
- Remain calm and focused in urgent and emergent situations
- Communicate professionally with multidisciplinary teams
- Provide culturally competent care to diverse patient populations
- Stand for extended periods, move quickly, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs
- Apply evidence-based practice and shared governance principles
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands
- Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
