The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for two Fish and Wildlife Technician 2/3 positions located in Juneau.
What you will be doingThis position plays a critical role in the management of Alaska’s fisheries. The incumbent will produce demographic data that is used for in-season management and forecasting of multiple commercially important fisheries.

This position offers training opportunities related to data management and a variety of fisheries sampling programs and contributes to the successful management of important fisheries resources.
The working environmentThe MTA Lab, which employs a staff of about 20 people, is located in Juneau’s Mendenhall Valley. The incumbent will process biological samples in a wet lab and decode coded wire tags at a workstation equipped with a tag reader and computer for data entry. Additional duties may include processing herring samples, periodic cross training in all lab sections, and occasional trips to the airport to pick up biological samples.
The start date of this position can be adjusted within limits to meet the needs of the selected applicant.

Special Note- A valid driver's license is required.
- CPR and First Aid Certification; training will be provided by the department at no cost to the employee.
- The position will be filled at the Fish and Wildlife Technician 2 level. Promotion to the FWT 3 level will occur upon successful completion of the probationary period and required training, as well as meeting the minimum qualifications of the higher job class.
Fish and Wildlife Technician 2
High school graduation or the equivalent.
OR
Three months as an entry level fish and wildlife technician or aide. With the State of Alaska, this experience is equivalent to Fish and Wildlife Technician 1.
OR
Six months of work experience involving fish, wildlife, outdoor manual labor, or in a laboratory.
