The University of Alaska Southeast invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Researcher to help carry out research on the "One Health Community-based Toxicant Assessment for Select NW Alaska Residents:
Environmental Contaminants".

Responsibilities

The postdoc will be responsible for collecting samples from subsistence foods donated by community members and analyzing data on organic and inorganic contaminants in traditional foods. The postdoc will be responsible for arranging field logistics to remote communities, collecting and processing sub-samples of fish and other biota harvested for subsistence, conducting public outreach to community members to present findings and be responsive to community concerns.

The fellow will conduct original research using contaminant data generated from community samples. The fellow will also share and communicate summaries and research findings to Tribal and other partners and communities.

  • Arranging logistics for field sampling efforts up to several weeks in remote Alaskan communities.
  • Developing and adhering to sampling protocols to maintain contamination-free environments.
  • Analyzing data on contaminants such as heavy metals, organic contaminants, and stable isotopes in biota.
  • Developing reports, peer‑reviewed manuscripts, and presentations on findings and recommendations.
Qualifications

Applicants must have (i) earned a PhD in a relevant scientific field or complete a PhD within 4 months of onboarding and (ii) a peer-reviewed publication record that is commensurate with experience.

Experience conducting environmental, chemical, biological, or fisheries related field work.

Position Details

This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt, 12‑month postdoctoral position complete with a competitive salary and UA employee benefits package.
