General Description of Responsibility

Through delegation from the Greater Prudhoe Bay (GPB) Laboratory Supervisor, and in a safe, legal, and ethical manner, the GPB Laboratory Technician provides the technical expertise to collect samples and perform field gas testing on the wells and test separators located at the GPB Oil Field as well as the technical expertise to perform analytical testing activities and maintain the associated records at the GPB Laboratory.

SUPERVISION

The GPB Laboratory Technician reports directly to the GPB Laboratory Supervisor, the O&M Superintendent, and Kakivik Asset Management. Works cooperatively with all Local, Area, and Regional Departments in the provision of routine GPB Laboratory services.

Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities
  • To implement the proper safety, health, waste disposal, quality and housekeeping practices as directed in the GPB Laboratory Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) within the GPB Laboratory.
  • To receive, examine and record through a login process in Lab works, inbound samples for testing at the GPB Laboratory.
  • Conduct needed analysis on crude, produced water, oilfield solids bulk chemicals and produced diesel.
  • To be well versed in the GPB Laboratory’s computer databases for testing information, laboratory data and changeover notes.
  • To prepare samples for shipment to outside laboratories with packing lists when appropriate.
  • To make appropriate entries into GPB Laboratory sample login books, field notebooks, logs, control charts, calibration records, laboratory worksheets and any other media whether print or electronic to assure the validity, traceability, and communication to the customer of the GPB Laboratory, test results.
  • To maintain documentation, equipment, and work areas in a neat, orderly, and safe condition.
  • To assist in the training of less experienced employees.
  • To participate in the writing and updating of policies and procedures for the GPB Laboratory.
  • To be a positive company representative to the GPB Laboratory clients.
  • To trouble shoot malfunctioning instruments to the best of their training and ability.
  • To adhere to professionalism and to the principles of the scientific method, basing decisions on education, experience, observation, and deduction.
  • To monitor the availability of supplies and instruments needed for testing processes and makes any needs for replenishment of such supplies or repair to instruments known to the Laboratory Supervisor.
  • To carry out the above responsibilities, and other duties as assigned, in a safe, legal, unbiased, and ethical manner, and in a fashion which demonstrates support for the Company's Quality Policy, Business Ethics Policy, Vision and Strategy, and to exercise good judgment, common sense, and diplomacy in so doing.

Requirement Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • 4-year chemistry degree or 2-years of equivalent experience analyzing oilfield hydrocarbons, water and solids.
  • Basic knowledge of chemical stoichiometry, mathematics, and of gravimetric, volumetric, instrumental, and physical methods of laboratory analysis.

  • Positive attitude, a high tolerance for job pressure, long hours, and the ability for working and communicating with people of diverse personalities and backgrounds.
