The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish seeks a Biometrician to ensure the statistical and biometric quality of research projects in Juneau. The role involves study design, data analysis using classical and Bayesian statistical methods, and collaboration with fisheries managers and research leaders on sport fishery management objectives. The position offers flexible staffing at three levels (Biometrician 1/2/3) with advancement opportunities through a training plan.
Keyqualifications
- Master's degree in biometrics, statistics, or biological sciences with 18 semester hours of graduate-level statistics/biometrics
- Experience with statistical software including R, JAGS/Win Bugs, SAS, and Program Mark
- Knowledge of experimental design, regression, spatial and time series analysis, and mark-recapture methods
- Proficiency with spatial data programs such as ArcGIS and Arc Map
- Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to present results to technical and lay audiences
- Valid driver's license required; access to firearms may be required for field protection
