Armed Services YMCA of Alaska – Bargain Shop Associate
Status: Part Time (Non-Exempt)
Pay: $14.00 per hour
Hours: M, T, W, F 9:00 – 2:30;
Thursday 9:00 – 6:30; 1st Saturday 9:00 – 2:30 (Up to 29 hours per week)
This position supports the work of the Armed Services YMCA by executing day‑to‑day store operations including sorting, stocking, retail sales, and occasionally directing operations and volunteers in the absence of the manager.
Essential Functions- Ensures the delivery of exceptional customer service to store patrons.
- Sorts items received through donation.
- Hangs, folds, and prepares items for display.
- Conducts cash and credit card sale transactions; handles and counts money.
- Devises/plans/executes store displays and improvements.
- Models relationship‑building skills in all interactions; responds to all customer complaints in a timely manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Bargain Shop Manager.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Solid organizational skills.
- Ability to work in various environments, including administrative areas, retail floor, and sorting areas.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and prioritize assignments.
- Basic cash handling and cash register experience highly desired.
- Experience with military lifestyles/military community preferred.
- Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform essential functions.
- Must lift 30 pounds.
- May occasionally work at special events outside normal hours, including some weekends.
