Build a career that provides security in benefits and salary, with room for personal growth and advancement as part of a team that is a community pillar. Schedule is week-on, week-off: 6am–6pm one week, then 6pm–6am the next, alternating. You are scheduled six months of the year; with this schedule, a week of vacation yields three consecutive weeks off. After arrival and the first week of orientation, you start as supervisor of inmates with a Field Training Officer to learn care, custody, security, and reformation of inmates.
During the first 12–14 months, new officers receive structured field training and attend a 7-week Correctional Officer Academy. After successful training and earning the Alaska Police Standards Council (APSC) Correctional Officer Certificate, you will promote to Correctional Officer 2.

Correctional Officers are the cornerstone of the Department's mission through daily interaction with offenders, helping people become better citizens and supporting reduced recidivism.

Lemon Creek Correctional Center operates 24/7/365. It houses male and female inmates with capacity up to 226 and employs about 90 staff. Mandatory overtime may be required if minimum staffing is not met.
Who we are looking for- Highly motivated applicants with strong written and oral communication, initiative, mature and assertive leadership, adaptability, and the ability to mentor and coach others.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude, flexibility, honesty, integrity, attention to detail, and computer skills.
- Ability to interface with other agencies, the public, and knowledge of Department Policies and Procedures.
At the time of employment: be 21 years of age and a United States citizen or a United States National; have a high school diploma or GED recognized by a state/local district; or have a GED certificate.
Special notes and minimum qualificationsAppointment to Correctional Officer 1 is conditional, pending successful completion of background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screening, and medical examination. This class series is considered technical/paraprofessional for minimum qualifications. Possess a valid US driver’s license at time of appointment. Employees must be willing to work shifts and may be required to be on call. If not continuously employed since February 9, 1991, in a relevant corrections role, you must meet APSC requirements within 14 months of hire.
