Overview

Alaska Marine Trucking is opening a state-of-the-art heavy equipment shop in Juneau, Alaska. We are seeking talented individuals to join our Team. Opportunities for Day shift and Night shifts are available. Night shifts include premium pay with optional 12-hour shifts from Monday through Thursday (4

Our mechanics specialize in maintaining some of the largest forklifts in the world. We also manage a fleet of tractors, including older Kenworth T800s and newer Kenworth T680s, as well as over 100 chassis.

Summary

Provides maintenance on heavy-duty equipment such as lift trucks, tractors, freight moving equipment and product transfer systems. Also provides maintenance and repair for company facilities under direction of the Maintenance Manager, Service Center Manager and/or Shop Lead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Mechanic I

Perform general preventative maintenance, including fluid changes, greasing equipment, and minor component changes. Maintain shop cleanliness and safe work practices. This is an entry-level position with on-the-job training; formal education is encouraged. Mechanics will learn a basic skill in our M&R software and must be certified on a 4T forklift.

Mechanic II

All responsibilities of Mechanic I. Ability to perform FHWA inspections. Assist with major component swaps (hydraulic pump, engines, transmissions). Basic welding skills. Electrical, hydraulic, engine, A/C and emissions system diagnostics and repairs. Must have at least a Class A CDL permit. At least 1 year of mechanical experience. Willingness to travel. 52T forklift certification.

Mechanic III

All responsibilities of Mechanic I-II. Holds a Class A CDL with appropriate endorsements. Ability to perform major component changes independently. Can work independently and lead projects. Can create and receive POs in our M&R software system.

Mechanic IV

All responsibilities of Mechanic I-III. Advanced knowledge in electrical, hydraulic, engine, A/C and emissions system diagnostics and repair. Deep knowledge of our M&R software. Completion of AMT Leadership training is required.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have mechanical inclination and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Attendance and timeliness are essential functions; employees typically work at least 40 hours per week. Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working on heavy-duty equipment. Advanced knowledge of hydraulic and DC electrical systems; basic understanding of metal fabrication. Experienced welder in MIG and stick processes. Ability to troubleshoot complex electric-over-hydraulic systems and read electrical and hydraulic schematics. Experience in the transportation industry is preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read, interpret, and write documents such as bills of lading, tariffs, delivery receipts, and safety manuals. Ability to speak effectively with customers, vendors, managers, and other employees. Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to perform basic arithmetic and apply concepts such as rates, ratios, areas, volumes, percentages, and proportions to practical solutions.
