Job Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator manages the safe and efficient operation of multiple pieces of construction equipment. They are proficient in the use of a diverse range of equipment, including Excavators, Loaders, Dozers, Rollers, Graders, Skid Steers, and others as required.
Main Responsibilities- Operate power construction equipment, such as bulldozers, front‑end loaders, backhoes, scrapers, motor graders, shovels, and derricks.
- May also be responsible for running large pumps or air compressors.
- Control attachments such as buckets, swing booms, scrapers, and blades; also control water and air output of pumps and compressors.
- Perform basic maintenance and repair of the equipment they operate.
- Perform equipment and material inspections.
- Understand specifications and instructions, both verbal and written.
- Follow safety regulations and wear personal protective equipment.
- Travel within Southeast Alaska communities may be required.
- Work overtime, including Saturdays and Sundays; weekly hours typically meet or exceed 60.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of one year of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current member of applicable Union.
- MSHA Certification.
- OSHA 10‑hr Certification.
- CPR/First Aid Certification desired.
- Pass pre‑employment/random drug screening and a PAT (physical ability test).
- Occasional exertion of 20‑50 pounds; frequent 10‑25 pounds; constant 10 pounds.
