Job TitleHeavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead – State Equipment Fleet (SEF)
Location & Traveling100 Airport Road, Klawock, AK. The position may include day trips and overnight stays in remote locations, including small aircraft travel.
Job OverviewProfessionally maintain all heavy‑ and light‑duty equipment and vehicles associated with construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports, and other State agency materials. Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems and perform routine and specialized repair on a variety of heavy equipment.
Responsibilities- Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine and emission, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems (air and electrical) for light and heavy‑duty equipment.
- Perform routine and specialized maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment and associated user agency vehicles.
- Utilize a variety of techniques and methods to resolve unusual or complex equipment problems.
- Maintain accurate repair logs and keep equipment safe, economical and reliable for State agencies.
- Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems and ability to repair and maintain them.
- Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, benefits, repair and maintenance.
- Flexibility and ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions or unexpected obstacles.
- Self‑management with high initiative and commitment to completing assignments on time.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with the ability to obtain or renew within 120 days of hire.
