Position Summary

As a Pipe Crew/Construction Miner, you will build and repair underground mine infrastructure such as metal paste line systems. Secondary work will support Construction and Support crews, including concrete pours, air door installs, sump/demarking, pump rebuilds, utilities, pipe fusing, and fan installations. You will work on a remote island 18 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska, starting your shift by inspecting the workplace, equipment, and tasks.

The role demands independent work, troubleshooting/mechanical maintenance, welding, fabrication, and proficiency in pipe installation.

What You Can Expect in This Role
  • Training first:
    Every hire receives MSHA training during the first four days, plus department‑level safety training.
  • Apply mechanical aptitude in operating and maintaining trucks, utility vehicles, loaders, and supporting equipment.
  • Work on a remote island and live in a mining camp if not Juneau‑based.
  • Straight night shift 14 on / 14 off with different crew rosters.
  • Daily workplace inspections and priority work planning.
  • Pass background screening for ATF (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms).
  • Rigorous safety inspections before each workday.
  • Supportive team environment.
Job Responsibilities
  • Install, inspect, and repair paste lines, including bracing and brackets.
  • Install ground anchor bolts (e.g., dywidags) using jackleg/stoper drill as needed.
  • Weld and fabricate bracing or other construction‑related work.
  • Cut and groove steel pipe.
  • Support Construction Crew (dayshift) or Support Crew with concrete pours, air door installs, dewatering infrastructure, pump rebuilds, utilities, pipe fusing, fan installations, and replacement of older utility lines.
Safety, Health & Environmental Responsibilities
  • Comply with all necessary safety requirements.
  • Ensure personal and team safety by acting responsibly.
  • Identify, eliminate, and report hazards promptly.
  • Report incidents and accidents as soon as practicable.
  • Cooperate in incident investigations and disclose all incident information.
  • Use and maintain PPE.
  • Provide process improvement suggestions.
  • Support management in change initiatives.
  • Maintain plant and equipment within safe operating limits.
  • Ensure correct equipment use for each job.
  • Participate in risk assessment methodology and safety initiatives.
  • Receive required training and instruction.
  • Maintain good housekeeping standards.
Essential Functions
  • Build, maintain, and repair paste system infrastructure, including piping and supports.
  • Inspect paste lines for proactive maintenance to reduce failures.
  • Work night shift under alternating Support Shifters, coordinating with Underground General Foremen.
  • Follow work plans to meet critical paste deadlines.
Construction/Support Position Summary
  • Form and pour concrete work.
  • Perform sump and dewatering system tasks including valving and pumps.
  • Handle air door work and bulkhead processes.
  • Assist Support Crew with utilities and pipe fusing.
  • Replace older utility lines on main ramps (e.g., air leak repairs).

Qualifications
  • Education Requirements
    High school graduation or equivalent.
  • Experience
    One year or more of heavy equipment operation experience preferred (vocational training or combination of training and experience acceptable). Underground construction and utility experience required.
  • Other Qualifications
    UG MSHA certification helpful but not required.
    Related vocational training preferred.
    Must obtain ATF clearance.
    Pass a pre‑employment physical and drug screen.
    Pass a position‑specific physical demands assessment.
