Transportation Maintenance Tech I/II/III – Anahuac Maintenance Office

The Texas Department of Transportation’s Beaumont District is seeking Transportation Maintenance Tech I, II, or III for our Anahuac Maintenance Office. The role blends hands‑on work, teamwork, and the satisfaction of keeping our community moving safely and smoothly.

Salary and Benefits

Minimum Salary: $40,918.00

Maximum Salary: $71,055.00

Pay Basis:
Yearly (FLSA Status: Nonexempt)

Work Location & Schedule

Anahuac Maintenance – 503 N Ross Sterling, Anahuac, 77514.

Travel:
Yes (10% of the time)

Shift: Day – Monday to Thursday, 6:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Position Description

Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work, including roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and assisting the public during emergency situations. Contact with private entities is required.

Essential Duties

Transportation Maintenance Tech I:

  • Assist in identifying, repairing, and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; perform basic welding as needed.
  • Assist local law enforcement at accident sites; assist stranded motorists as required.
  • Assist with traffic control; place and gather cones, warning signs, and barricades; flag traffic.
  • Determine placement of traffic control devices and install/move devices.
  • Inspect barricades for compliance with standards.
  • Maintain highways and rights‑of‑way; conduct roadway repairs; erect and repair guard rails, highway markers, and signs; haul materials and equipment.
  • Maintain picnic and rest areas, maintenance yards, and comfort stations.
  • Remove litter and roadway debris.
  • Mow rights‑of‑way and rest areas; perform plant and landscape maintenance.
  • Operate light equipment such as loader, pneumatic roller, rotary broom, spreader box, backhoe, street sweeper, and mower.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections (PMI), routine servicing and minor repairs on equipment; complete required reports.
  • Sand or clean bridges and roads; post warning signs; assist during emergency situations such as floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, snowstorms, accidents, hazardous material spills.
  • Assist with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

Transportation Maintenance Tech II
:

  • Serve as the sole maintenance contract inspector on a small project.
  • Assist inspecting traffic control devices and their placement at construction sites for compliance.
  • Maintain construction project records and related paperwork.
  • Perform skilled roadway repairs; erect and repair guard rails, markers, and signs; haul materials and equipment.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as loader (1½ cubic yard or more), tractor‑trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint stripper, and dump truck.
  • Identify, repair, and install signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; perform welding.
  • Inspect routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship.
  • Identify, analyze, and implement solutions for complex maintenance problems.
  • Inspect materials, equipment, and procedures in manufacturing or at point of supply.
  • Work on a survey crew; operate survey instruments such as theodolite, transit, level, electronic distance meter, and total station.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.

Transportation Maintenance Tech III
:

  • Maintain highways and rights‑of‑way; perform highly skilled roadway repairs; erect and repair guard rails, markers, and signs; haul materials and equipment.
  • Inspect routine and non‑routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship.
  • Operate complex heavy equipment such as motor grader, large excavator, bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, asphalt paving machine, asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine.
