Heavy Diesel Technician/Mechanic - Night Shift

Alaska Marine Trucking is seeking energetic, adventurous, and hard-working individuals for a night shift mechanic team. The position offers competitive wages, benefits, and opportunities for professional growth in a state-of-the-art heavy equipment shop in Juneau.

Provides maintenance on heavy-duty equipment such as lift trucks, tractors, freight moving equipment and product transfer systems. Also provides maintenance and repair for company facilities under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, Service Center Manager and/or Shop Lead.

Mechanic I

• Perform general preventative maintenance, including fluid changes, greasing equipment, and minor component changes. Maintain shop cleanliness and safe work practices. This is an entry-level position with on-the-job training; formal education is encouraged. Learn a basic skill in our M&R software. Must be certified on a 4T forklift.

Mechanic II

• All responsibilities of Mechanic I. Ability to perform FHWA inspections. Assist with more major component swaps (hydraulic pump, engines, transmissions). Basic welding skills. Diagnostics and repairs across electrical, hydraulic, engine, A/C, and emissions systems. Must have at least a Class A CDL permit and at least 1 year of mechanical experience. Willing to travel when needed. 52T forklift certified.

Mechanic III

• All responsibilities of Mechanic I-II. Has a Class A CDL with appropriate endorsements. Ability to perform major component changes independently. Can work autonomously and lead projects. Ability to create and receive purchase orders in the M&R software system.

Mechanic IV

• All responsibilities of Mechanic I-III. Advanced knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, engine, A/C and emissions systems diagnostics and repair. In-depth knowledge of the M&R software system. Completion of AMT Leadership training is required.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have mechanical inclination and be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Attendance and timeliness are essential. High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working on heavy-duty equipment. Advanced knowledge of hydraulic and DC electrical systems and basic metal fabrication. Experienced welder (MIG and stick). Ability to troubleshoot complex electric-over-hydraulic systems and read electrical/hydraulic schematics. Transportation industry experience preferred.

• Alaska Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsement
• Valid DOT medical card

  Detail-oriented, strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment; hazardous materials training; flexible with extended hours; ability to work under pressure; maintain accurate records in maintenance software; analyze repair failures; capable of working with minimal supervision or as part of a team; own toolbox and essential hand tools.

• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. May stoop, kneel, or crouch to inspect equipment.
• Manual dexterity for handling tools, data entry, and operating controls.
• Near, distance, peripheral, and depth vision; ability to adjust focus.
• Occasional lifting up to 100 pounds.

• Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, chemicals, and variable weather, including Arctic conditions.
• Potential for electric shock risk; noise levels range from moderate to moderately loud.
