Protective Services Specialist 1/2

Office of Children's Services (OCS) in Anchorage, Alaska is recruiting for a full‑time Protective Services Specialist level 1/2. The position is open to Alaska residents.

Responsibilities

As a Protective Services Specialist (PSS) you will be responsible for child protection services in the Family Services unit, the Investigations & Assessment unit, or as a generalist covering both. Services are intended to ensure the safety, permanency and well‑being of children, enhance the protective capacities of parents, and strengthen families. The role includes:

  • Investigate reports of child abuse and/or neglect.
  • Prepare intervention plans, solicit cooperation of the family and others.
  • Gather information on family dynamics, develop plans to ensure child safety while helping parents address protective factors.
  • Place children out of the home with a relative or licensed foster home when necessary.
  • Provide ongoing and/or in‑home services to families.
  • Write and submit reports to the courts.
  • Work closely with tribal/community partners and maintain frequent face‑to‑face and telephonic contact with parents and caregivers.
  • Make referrals to other service providers and agencies.

Working Environment You Can Expect

The Anchorage Regional Office is in mid‑town Anchorage. Work includes typical office setting and regular field work throughout the community. Travel expected 2‑5 times a month, including day trips and occasional overnight stays in rural or extreme weather conditions. Staff may work after hours, on‑call, in evenings and weekends. Typical workweek includes community visits, court attendance, and office work.

Special Note

Valid Real a driver’s license is required. Mileage reimbursement available for personal vehicle use. Relocation reimbursement may be provided by the State of Alaska.
