Job Description

Department of Family and Community Services, Office of Children's Services (OCS) is recruiting for full‑time Social Services Associate (SSA) located in Juneau, Alaska. This position is open to Alaska residents only.

What You Will Be Doing

As a Social Services Associate you will support professional staff by gathering information for assessments, case planning, and evaluation. Your duties may include providing parenting support during family contact to enable parents to practice parenting skills in a safe environment, accessing electronic databases, and providing information to professional staff to make necessary referrals for families to other agencies.

You will work with families and children to enhance families’ capacities to give their children a healthy start, to provide them with safe and permanent homes, to maintain cultural connections, and to help them realize their potential. You will be courteous, professional, calm, motivated, efficient, and possess strong critical thinking skills. The position requires traveling up to a week at a time.

OCS staff are required to work overtime when deemed necessary and are considered essential, working during pandemics and natural disasters. OCS supports a healthy work/life balance for all staff.

Working Environment You Can Expect

The position is located in Juneau, Alaska. OCS staff are essential and are required to work after hours, on‑call hours, through pandemics and natural disasters, as well as all holidays that land on the rotational work week. OCS works evenings, weekends, and weekdays, so overtime and on‑call work are expectations. Travel to villages or cities for placement or visitation varies based on regional needs and can be 0-2 times a month or year.

Length of trip varies from within the day to overnight stays. Travel in outlying areas may involve small aircraft and overnight stays.
