Zach Gordon Youth Services is looking for a qualified individual to fill our Youth Development Leader position at Shéiyi X_aat Hít Youth Shelter.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FORAn ideal candidate for this position is someone who enjoys teens and middle school aged youth and who is willing to meet youth where they are at and not give up on them. We are looking for someone who has and understands healthy boundaries when working with vulnerable populations. We are looking for someone who understands and is willing to continue to learn how childhood trauma impacts the life-span and how systemic inequities and historical trauma impact our community today.

We are looking for someone who is calm in a crisis and can problem solve. Strong communication and empathy skills are a must!

WORKING HOURS AND LOCATION

This is a part-time limited (PTL) position working up to 15 hours a week. PTL YDL I's may work any variety of shifts that support a 24-hour facility. Shifts can range from a few hours a day, to two 8 hour shifts a week. This position will work a combination of hours on Sunday's and Monday's, with available hours on additional days.
Typical Responsibilities
Youth Development Leaders are responsible for day-to-day supervision of youth in the shelter. You will wake youth up and cook breakfast. You will set the tone for the day and help youth start their day off on a good foot! Responsibilities include cooking meals, light housekeeping, helping incoming youth with paperwork and getting settled, and providing supportive counseling. You may drive youth to appointments and/or to school.

You will help youth develop life skills and support them in talking through options when they have difficult decisions to make. You will make note of progress or areas where youth may be really struggling and share this with the team. You will also do data entry and file paperwork. Your work on this shift supports the work of the other two shifts of the day as well.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:

Graduation from high school or the equivalent;

AND

Any combination of work experience or post-secondary education totaling three (3) months in any field.
Substitute: One course from an accredited college in a human related field may substitute for experience. A secondary degree in any field will also substitute for experience.
License or certifications:
A valid driver's license at time of appointment and for continued employment.

First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment
Note For Shelter Positions:

Under Alaska Statute 12.62.400 (9) Appointment to this position is offered conditionally, pending the results of a National Criminal History report through the FBI. Applicants must submit their fingerprints to continue in the hiring approval process. The applicant will receive a copy of the report of findings and may dispute within 5 (five) days of receiving them. Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors.
