Overview
Zach Gordon Youth Services is hiring a Youth Advocate for the Shéiyi Xaat Hít Youth Shelter in the Mendenhall Valley. The role involves building relationships with youth, coordinating care plans, and supporting families and shelter staff.
Who We Are Looking ForWe seek a candidate who thrives working with teens, remains calm in crisis, and has a strong ability to build relationships. Applicants should understand healthy boundaries with vulnerable populations, be knowledgeable about the impact of childhood trauma and systemic inequities, and be comfortable navigating systems, paperwork, and questions. Strong communication, empathy, and teaching skills in one‑on‑one and group settings are essential.
TypicalResponsibilities
- Coordinate care for youth admitted to the shelter.
- Develop individualized care plans and connect youth to needed services.
- Provide referrals and coordinate with partner organizations.
- Facilitate mediation between families and caregivers to aid youth transition home.
- Help youth communicate their needs and build skill‑building activities.
- Support a warm, welcoming, non‑judgmental culture of acceptance at the shelter.
- Supervise and oversee youth safety at all times.
The position is based at the Shéiyi Xaat Hít Youth Shelter. It primarily involves daytime shifts, with expectations of one weekend shift and occasional evening shifts.
Minimum Qualifications- High school graduation or equivalent.
- At least 6 months of relevant work experience or post‑secondary education.
- Experience with youth, families impacted by trauma, or coordinating patient referrals is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license at the time of appointment and during employment.
- First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment.
