Overview

UAS Residence Life is hiring Resident Advisors (RAs) for Fall/Spring  to provide support for UAS Housing student residents and the guest housing program. Become a member of a community dedicated to academic achievement, learning, and personal growth. Our goal is to encourage and enhance the academic mission of the University through experiences outside of the classroom. RAs serve as role models and mentors to residents by educating them on the Student Code of Conduct and UAS Housing policies, connecting them to on-campus resources, providing support in emergency situations that may arise, and by providing student engagement opportunities.

A student in this position will expect responsibilities that are compensated by a semesterly Housing and Dining credit with opportunities for responsibilities that are compensated hourly. Your residential environment will provide the opportunity to experience new concepts, different cultures, an active community, and a pleasant and comfortable living space. Our goal is that you will get involved in your residential community and will help make it a “home away from home” for all our students.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to residents.
  • Educate residents on the Student Code of Conduct and UAS Housing policies.
  • Connect residents to on-campus resources.
  • Provide support during emergency situations.
  • Create and facilitate student engagement opportunities.
  • Demonstrate leadership potential or prior leadership experience.
  • Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal, with diverse populations.
  • Mediating conflict, problem solving, decision making based on sound judgment.
  • Work independently and collaboratively, with strong organizational skills.
  • Manage tasks efficiently.
  • Participate in University of Alaska Southeast Campus Life programs, community initiatives, and an on‑duty rotation.
  • On‑duty rotation includes at least one night per week (5:00 PM–8:00 AM) and full‑day weekend shifts on a rotating basis.
  • Maintain visibility in assigned residential communities.
  • Attend one staff meeting and one supervisory meeting per week.
  • Support the mission, vision, and goals of UAS Student Affairs and Residence Life.
Minimum Qualifications and Eligibility
  • At the time of hire, applicants must have applied for housing through the Department of Residence Life.
  • Graduate Teaching Assistants are not eligible for RA positions due to time commitments.
  • Commitment of one full academic year (or the remainder of such at the time of hire).
  • Preference for applicants with a minimum of two semesters of community living experience prior to their term of employment.
  • Eligibility for student employment: a) Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester; b) Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and plan to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester; c) Have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA, be in good academic standing, or have approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee.

    If a successful candidate enters the position with a cumulative or semester GPA below 2.0, the RA will be placed on Residence Life Academic Probation and must raise their GPA to 2.0 within one semester; d) Students enrolled in non‑traditional programs of study will be considered eligible with approval of the Senior Student Services officer; e) Provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft and Google Suite applications.
  • Physical requirements:

    ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds, visually identify individuals from a minimum of 10 feet away, and complete 30‑minute campus rounds across various terrains, including stairs.
  • Complete all UAS employee Required Training (including Safety training, Title IX, Protection of minors, Campus Security Authority, and FERPA) within two weeks of hire date.

This position is located on the UAS campus in Juneau. This is a part‑time, non‑exempt Student Level 2 position, starting wage $14.38 /hr with the following benefits:
