Apple Services Engineering’s Commerce group is seeking an Engineering Manager who will lead the platform engineering team for the transactional engine powering the App Store, iTunes Music Store, Apple Music, iBook Store, Apple TV+, and other services. The role focuses on building a scalable, secure commerce platform that supports millions of daily transactions across more than 130 countries.
As a technical leader, you will:
- Build services and application components that support high levels of transactional integrity, scalability, availability, fault tolerance, and security.
- Contribute to the architecture, design, and implementation of user‑visible features, identifying components that can be reused across different scenarios and domains.
- Collaborate with multi‑functional teams and partner organizations to deliver features that meet local market and language requirements.
- Design and write reusable libraries, frameworks, and infrastructure for caching, messaging, and workflow management.
- Write clear, concise, and efficient code while mentoring and coaching engineering staff.
- Own the technical direction in ambiguous situations and set long‑term priorities.
- At least 10 years of professional experience, including a minimum of three years in a lead or management role.
- Strong object‑oriented design and analysis skills.
- Experience building components/frameworks/libraries that provide substantial software leverage.
- Proficiency with relational databases, JDBC, and ORMs such as Hibernate, JPA, etc.
- Hands‑on experience with No
SQL solutions such as Cassandra, Voldemort, or Memcached. - Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Apache Spark, Hadoop).
- TCP/IP networking experience, including HTTP, HTTPS, SSL.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong sense of responsibility and integrity.
- Ability to make timely and sound decisions while supporting strong team dynamics.
- Fastidious attention to detail and a “hands‑on” coding mindset.
BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is required; an MS is preferred.
