What You Will Be DoingThe Lead Lifeguard oversees lifeguard monitoring activities in the absence of the Facility Manager or Assistant Manager. Duties include maintaining order, preventing accidents, rescuing swimmers in distress, and providing swimming instruction. Responsibilities also involve staff scheduling, assigning lifeguards to duty stations, guiding on pool procedures and safety practices, monitoring performance, correcting unsafe practices, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and conducting routine inspections of the pool, deck, equipment, and facility areas to identify hazards and notify management of maintenance or repair needs.

As a Lifeguard ecumbe High School you will support a diverse community of high‑school students ages 14–18 and members of the public in a State‑operated aquatic center. This role offers hands‑on experience in safety leadership, teamwork, and facility operations within a professional and energetic environment. It is an excellent opportunity for individuals with strong communication, organizational, and customer‑service skills who take pride in maintaining a safe and welcoming space.
TheWorking Environment You Can Expect
The position is in a busy, State‑operated aquatic center serving both high‑school students and the public. Lifeguards can expect an active role that requires constant vigilance, strong communication, and the ability to work in a warm, humid setting while standing for extended periods and responding quickly to emergencies.
Who We Are Looking For- First Response:
Knowledge of emergency management methods, such as first aid, rescue techniques, and threat assessments. - Teaching Others:
Helps others learn through formal or informal methods; identifies training needs; provides constructive feedback; coaches others on how to perform tasks; acts as a mentor. - Interpersonal
Skills:
Treats others with courtesy, sensitivity, and respect. Considers and responds appropriately to the needs and feelings of different people in different situations.
- First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified is required.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification or willingness to become certified is required.
- Certified as a Lifeguard or willingness to become certified is required.
- Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a criminal history check.
- At least 18 years of age at time of appointment.
- Current training and certification in First Aid, CPR, and Lifeguard.
- One year of experience ensuring safe and effective patronage, operations, and delivery of programs to various user groups at a swimming pool facility or similar aquatic center.
- Some positions may require the successful applicant to obtain and maintain any combination of Water Safety Instruction and/or Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) certification as appropriate. Continued employment is contingent upon obtaining necessary certification within twelve months of initial hire and throughout employment.
