Job Description
Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead – The DOT&PF State Equipment Fleet seeks a skilled mechanic to maintain heavy‑and light‑duty equipment and vehicles used for construction, maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports and other agency assets. The role requires diagnosing, repairing, and modifying transmissions, drive trains, suspensions, engines, emissions, fuel injection, hydraulic systems, and brake systems, including air and electrical components for both light and heavy equipment.
Responsibilities- Professionally maintain all heavy‑and light‑duty equipment and vehicles used in construction and maintenance of secondary roads, rural airports, and other agency vehicles.
- Resolve unusual or complex equipment problems through a variety of techniques and methods.
- Perform routine and specialized repair and maintenance on a variety of heavy equipment, diagnosing and addressing issues in transmissions, drive trains, suspensions, engines, emissions, fuel injection, hydraulic, brake, air and electrical systems.

Work EnvironmentThis position is located at 6860 Glacier Highway, Juneau, AK. Travel in small planes to maintain equipment in remote locations is possible and may include day trips and overnight stays.
Qualifications- Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Flexibility to adapt quickly to new information or changing conditions.
- Vehicle maintenance knowledge: motor vehicle engines, parts, and systems, including design, repair, and maintenance.
- Strong self‑management: sets realistic goals, demonstrates initiative, works independently, and is highly motivated.
- A copy of your Class A CDL, front and back (if applicable).
- Three professional references with name, title, and phone number.
Requires possession of a Class A CDL, registration with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety‑sensitive duties, and consent for driver information review. Hire approval is conditional upon obtaining a Class A Alaska CDL within 120 days of hire and signing an agreement.
Drug & Alcohol PolicySelected candidates must comply with DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and may not start in a CDL position until the required pre‑employment drug test is cleared.
Tool AllowanceEmployees will provide their own hand tools and receive a bi‑weekly tool allowance as determined by the LTC contract.

Education and Work ExperienceTranscripts and educational credentials are required to verify qualifications. For foreign education, credential conversion documentation must be provided. Work experience, including employer name, job title, dates, and employment type, must also be documented.
