Job DescriptionThe Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT & PF), Southcoast Region Highways and Aviation/M&O is looking for an Equipment Operator Foreman 1 in Akutan to help us Keep Alaska Moving! Base salary is $37.37 per hour, plus overtime eligibility.
What You Will Be Doing- Supervise the airport maintenance crew (6 full-time) by planning, scheduling, and directing daily operations.
- Perform and oversee maintenance activities including snow and ice control, road and airport surface repair, vegetation management, and drainage work.
- Operate and coordinate the use of heavy equipment such as plow trucks, loaders, graders, and dozers.
- Maintain records and reports of daily work, inventory, and materials using the state’s Maintenance Management System (AGILE).
- Respond to public inquiries, manage personnel matters, and coordinate with other agencies and DOT & PF departments on projects and permitting.
This position is located in Akutan. Working at the DOT & PF offers a uniquely challenging and rewarding environment. With Alaska’s extensive terrain and extreme weather, employees may work in remote or urban locations, maintaining roads, bridges, airports, ports, and public facilities. Opportunities exist to travel to other stations during the summer months for extended periods to complete projects.

Class A Commercial Driver’s License qualified to operate all equipment at the duty station. Two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of highways or airports. Knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
Additional Required Information- Three (3) professional references, including name, job title, and current phone numbers.
- A copy of your last two (2) performance evaluations (letters of recommendation acceptable if evaluations are unavailable).
- Copy of your CDL license.
This position requires the incumbent to possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) per federal regulations and to register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety‑sensitive duties.
Drug and Alcohol PolicySelected candidates must comply with DOT & PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and cannot start work in a CDL position until confirmation of a passing Pre‑Employment drug test. All violations and refusals will be maintained with the Federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse database.
Arms & Ammunition RequirementThis position may require a firearm or ammunition. Candidates convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are ineligible in accordance with federal law.
