Overview

As the only aerial tramway in Southeast Alaska, guests at the Goldbelt Tram are invited to soar to new heights in scenic adventure aboard Juneau's top attraction. We offer locals and visitors an opportunity to experience breathtaking Alaska scenery, explore the miles of trails atop Mount Roberts, and learn more about Alaska Native culture.

Summary

Under the direction of the Tram Operations Manager, the Supervisor is designated to oversee the aerial tramways operating practices and operating personnel for the purpose of public use. The designated supervisor may delegate some authority to others, but shall oversee the operation and operating personnel of the aerial tramway, as called for by the owner as part of the operation and maintenance quality assurance plan (per ANSI B-77 1.5.4).

Location

Applicants must be living in Juneau, Alaska or be willing to relocate at their own expense.

Pay and Benefits

Seasonal Employees are eligible for the Seasonal Employee Layoff Bonus Plan. The plan is designed to provide an effective means to motivate and compensate eligible seasonal employees during the term of their assignment. Goldbelt, Inc. may grant discretionary performance bonuses outside of this program. Starting Rate: $30.00 - DOE.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee practices that determine the aerial tramway is operational, and that all operating personnel are trained, equipped, and capable of performing their duties before public operation.
  • Monitor factors affecting the safe and efficient operation of the tramway cars and Tram Control.
  • Authorize discontinuation of operations due to physical, adverse weather, personnel or other reasons.
  • Deny access to the aerial tramway to any person; use procedures and criteria provided.
  • Oversee operational procedures and adherence to applicable regulations pertaining to the aerial tramway.
  • Ensure that subordinates are trained (including in emergency rope evacuation), equipped and fit to perform their duties.
  • Emphasize the importance of customer service; monitor staff’s provision of the same and correct weaknesses or problems.
  • Review the operator’s manual with each new and returning employee; record all training per the ANSI code.
  • Become familiar with all tram systems and normal operations.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of tram systems and record/log faults and bypasses per ANSI code.
  • When necessary due to personnel understaffing, unexpected absences, or emergencies, perform the duties of a Tram Operator or Tram Attendant; remain on call during the regular tram operating season and assist the Tram Operations Manager when needed.
  • Enforce operational and safety rules; keep manager informed of any condition or occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of the operation.
  • Monitor that all signs in the ramp area, safety equipment and rope evacuation equipment are in place.
  • Participate in conducting emergency evacuation under direction of the Tram Operations Manager.
  • Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications Necessary Skills and Knowledge
  • Ability to meet time and attendance requirements.
  • Ability to work all schedules including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to provide quality superior customer service.
  • Ability to handle stress under pressure.
  • Ability to physically climb out of the tramway cabin under the direction of the Tram Operations Manager and staff.
  • Ability to physically rope evacuate passengers and self from cabin.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to train staff in tram operations, emergency evacuation procedures, and basic customer service skills.
  • Ability to learn, understand and follow verbal and manual instructions; learn and function within ANSI codes.
  • Skill in operating personal computer utilizing a variety of computer software.
  • Working knowledge/familiarity of tram operations systems.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
  • Ability to work directly with the public, providing information and assistance on a daily basis.
  • Ability/willingness to learn and pass on to guests those areas of interest to visitors, such as local history, people, culture, geography, etc.
Minimum Qualifications (education, Experience, Skills)
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of one season as an aerial tram operator.
  • Lead/supervisory experience, including scheduling and training subordinates in any environment.
  • Current CPR and first aid certificates, or be able to obtain within 90 days.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.
Preferred Qualifications (education, Experience, Skills)
  • A valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
  • Prior Tram Operations experience.
