Secon is one of the companies within Colaska Inc., the Colas USA subsidiary that operates throughout the state of Alaska. Secon is based in Juneau, where the company provides construction materials commercially, with satellite offices in Sitka and Ketchikan. Secon constructs project large and small; be it highways, airports, rural roads or mining developments.

Job Summary:

This is a Union Position Controls movement of vehicular traffic through construction projects while ensuring the safety of the traveling public and crew.

Main Responsibilities:

• Discuss traffic routing plans, type and location of control points with superior.
• Distribute traffic control signs and markers along site in designated pattern.
• Direct movement of traffic through site, using, signs, hands and flag signals.
• Warn crew when approaching vehicle fails to heed signals to prevent accident and injury to workers.
• Inform drivers of detour routes through construction sites.
• Give hand marker to last driver in line up of one-way traffic for flagger at opposite end of site, signaling clearance for reverse flow of traffic.
• Work in a team-oriented environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned to assist the crew.
• Must be able to understand specifications and instructions, both verbal and written.
• Knowledge of and strict adherence to safety regulations.
• Wear all proper personal protective equipment.
• Must be able to work overtime including Saturdays and Sundays. Typical weekly work hours can meet or exceed 60 hours.

Skills:

• MSHA Certification.
• OSHA 10 hr Certification.
• CPR/First Aid Certification desired.
• Flagging Certificate required.
• May occasionally operate pilot car at construction site.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to pass drug screening and a PAT (physical abilities test).
• Exert force of 20-50 pounds occasionally, 10-25 pounds frequently, or 10 pounds constantly.
• Regularly required to communicate on a radio (talk and hear).
• Standing/working on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain.
• Regularly exposed to all outdoor weather conditions, dust, and airborne particles.
