Job Summary
The Airport Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for assisting in the planning and coordination of daily workloads, executing assigned projects, and ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the heavy equipment fleet. Duties include maintaining airport runways, supporting aircraft, performing winter maintenance such as snow removal on runways and apron, and managing material handling within the Kuparuk field.
Essential Duties- Perform apron, road, and runway maintenance and repair to specified aviation criteria.
- Conduct snow removal on runways and apron.
- Support aircraft operations by loading and unloading baggage, deicing aircraft, and assisting with fueling.
- Operate the Kuparuk fleet of heavy equipment safely and proficiently, including Volvo front‑end loaders, 16‑Blade Caterpillars, Oshkosh snowblowers and sweeper, Kenworth sander with belly blade, deicing truck, jet truck, paint striping machine, and hot patching machine.
- Prepare, update, and maintain logs, records, and timecards.
- Monitor equipment operation, perform pre‑operation inspections, identify malfunctions, submit maintenance requests, and clean equipment.
- Inspect, adjust, and perform minor equipment repairs.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining inventory of supplies, PPE, equipment, and tools.
- Support a zero‑incident safety culture and adhere to a strong safety and environmental focus.
- Fulfill other duties as assigned.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid U.S. issued, Alaska‑compliant Class A CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
- Current DOT Medical Card.
- North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification.
- Ability to work 84 hours a week on a 2x2 or 3x3 rotation.
- Minimum of three (3) years operating the specified heavy equipment as a Heavy Equipment Operator.
- Four (4) or more years as a Heavy Equipment Operator in an airport, petrochemical, oil and gas, North Slope, or other Arctic environment.
- Current OSHA Trenching and Excavation Certification.
