Position Overview
Equipment Operator, Journey 1/2 at Iliamna Maintenance Station, Alaska. The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) seeks an operator to maintain infrastructure, airports, and highways in harsh conditions. This role requires travel to other stations and may include shift work.
SalaryJourney 1: $31.62 hourly, OT eligible. Journey 2: $33.44 hourly, OT eligible.
Responsibilities- Operate light‑duty equipment for maintenance activities at state infrastructure; heavy‑duty equipment in training.
- Operate heavy equipment for maintenance tasks; shift work may be required.
- Perform airport and highway maintenance under all conditions including snow removal, asphalt repair, airfield lighting, and emergency training.
- Travel to other stations during summer months for projects.
- Knowledge of transportation principles for moving goods by air, rail, sea, or road.
- Knowledge of vehicle operation procedures for cars, trucks, or watercraft.
- Problem‑solving skills: identify problems, evaluate alternatives, make recommendations.
- Eye‑hand coordination to perform job‑related tasks.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required.
- For Journey 1: obtain a Class A CDL within 180 days of hire under 49 CFR Part 383.23; comply with the Equipment Operator Flex Letter of Agreement (LOA).
- For Journey 2: obtain a Class A CDL immediately, plus an N‑Tanker endorsement within 90 days;
Haz Mat endorsement may be required. - Random drug and alcohol testing per policy.
- Firearms qualification where applicable.
- Ready to work in remote or urban locations and handle extreme weather conditions.
- Alaska residency required.
