Alaska Marine Trucking provides and manages local freight distribution services in Alaska, including loading, unloading, warehousing, pickup, and delivery. We work closely with Alaska Marine Lines in coastal communities throughout Southeast, Central, and Western Alaska.
We currently have an opening for a Freight Operations/Dock‑to‑Driver in Juneau, Alaska. This is a full‑time position that offers family‑friendly benefits, a competitive pay package, and professional growth.

Dock‑to‑Driver Training Program designed to pay for CDL training for employees desiring to obtain a Class‑A CDL. Successful candidates will be hired as Freight Handlers and, through the training program, become Class‑A Drivers. All CDL training costs are covered by Alaska Marine Trucking.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Safety is the priority; this position is safety‑sensitive and requires constant alertness.
- Inspect truck and trailer for defects and submit daily vehicle inspection form.
- Check shipping papers for proper descriptions of commodities (including hazardous materials), weight, packaging, marking, labeling, and other necessary information.
- Collect payment for goods delivered and delivery charges when necessary.
- Maneuver vehicle safely and efficiently while transporting cargo in heavy traffic, inclement weather, and difficult loading/unloading facilities.
- Maintain telephone or radio contact with dispatcher.
- Operate forklifts with lifting capacity between 3,000 and 8,000 pounds.
- Load and unload trucks/trailers, securing shipments with cargo straps, ropes, lumber, etc.; may involve climbing onto a flatbed or containers as needed.
- Assist with maintenance of company property, including sweeping warehouse floor and housekeeping duties.
- Report all safety hazards, incidents, accidents involving cargo, vehicles, driver, personnel, or public.
- Maintain compliance records: vehicle inspections, hazardous material manifests, permits.
- Work flexible hours.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess mechanical inclination and ability to perform essential duties. Attendance and timeliness are essential. The position requires at least 40 hours/week on a continuous basis.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCEHigh school diploma or equivalent and a Commercial Learners Permit from the State of Alaska.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, interpret, and write documents such as bills of lading, tariffs, delivery receipts; speak effectively with customers, vendors, managers, and employees.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLSAbility to perform arithmetic operations and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
OTHERSKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Obtain Class‑A CDL from the State of Alaska.
- Understand written and oral instructions; prioritize and problem‑solve in safety‑sensitive situations; read and understand wire and hydraulic schematics.
- Apply common sense to follow instructions, prioritize and solve problems.
