• Check in and check out patients including collecting copays, posting patient charges, and scheduling appointments.
• Verification of insurance benefits, identify and bill primary, secondary, and tertiary insurances
• Following up on unpaid claims to ensure payment within 60 days of service
• Familiar with assigning CPTs, ICD 10 codes and modifiers in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines for appropriate reimbursement.
• Assists in obtaining final diagnosis and contacting physicians for clarification of documentation when needed.
• Assist in reviewing patient claims for accuracy and completeness to ensure payment
• Insurance follow up – A/R
• Assists in training of new staff, coordinates with fellow coders for any clarification.
• Ensures legal compliance by following company policies, procedures, guidelines, as well as state and federal insurance regulations.
• Assist in contacting insurance companies regarding discrepancy in payments
• Other duties may include preparation of reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.

Qualifications:

• Ophthalmology knowledge and related work experience (Preferred but not required)
• Coding Certification (Preferred but not required)
• Experience with Electronic Medical Record systems, Knowledge of Modernizing Medicine (EMA) (Preferred but not required)
• Working knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding system.
• Experience in ophthalmic medical charge entry
• Experience in medical billing, current A/R & experience in patient services.
• Prior experience working Medicare and other government payers and commercial insurance.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize needs to meet required timelines.
