PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
The purpose of this classification is to perform skilled manual field work including construction, maintenance, and repair of storm drainage systems and/or water distribution systems and to operate related equipment, in compliance with Local/State/Federal standards, guidelines and laws.

Utility Worker Trainee: $43,231.19
Utility Worker I: $45,392.75
Utility Worker II: $48,573.25
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Employees must provide courteous, professional customer service, and are required to provide prompt 24-hour response to various emergency and non-emergency situations. Employees are expected to work in all types of weather conditions, and where hazardous conditions may exist.
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the nature of the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs manual work involving tasks associated with construction, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution system as required to maintain integrity and reliability to the potable water system, maintain distribution system water quality and ensure sufficient distribution system water pressure. Performs manual work involving tasks associated with construction, maintenance, and repair of storm drainage systems as required to maintain integrity and function of infrastructure to minimize flooding and provide enhanced water quality of stormwater runoff.
Perform necessary tasks with knowledge of and in compliance with local, state, and federal laws, regulations and standards for water distribution and stormwater systems. Utilize materials, tools, equipment and safety practices as required to perform the work safely and avoid occupational hazards. .
Operates a variety of equipment and machinery including but not limited to backhoes, skid steers, loaders, dump trucks, tractors, pumps, generators, vacuum trailers, and air compressors.
Routine use of various hand tools and specialized tools, including but not limited to water main tapping machines, pneumatic tools, and transits.
Duties of in this position may include but not be limited to the following:
Perform installation, maintenance, repair, and relocation of fire hydrants
Install, locate, exercise, and repair water valves.
Install new water mains and water services.
Performs taps on existing water mains.
Repair damaged water mains and water services.
Repair, adjust, and relocate water services.
Install, repair, and replace water meters and meter boxes.
Install and maintain distribution sample stations and auto flushers.
Restore or coordinate the restoration of swales, lawns, landscaping, sidewalks, driveways, and roads as a result of repair work.
Implement MOT as needed, including but not limited to flagging, installation, and removal of MOT devices.
Water distribution system flushing, sampling and residual testing.
Install, inspect, maintain, and repair storm structures, manholes, pipes, culverts, outfalls, check valves, swales, ditches, ponds, retention areas, and detention areas.
Inspect, monitor, and document stormwater systems for compliance with various Local/State/Federal programs.
Complete work order documentation for all associated assignments/tasks utilizing I-pads, computers, and software programs as required.
Cross training between water distribution and stormwater systems with opportunity to become dual licensed/certified.
Perform related work as required.
Assist other Utility divisions and Town departments as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Utility Worker Trainee:
High school diploma or GED
Must be able to obtain and maintain valid Level 3 Distribution System Operators License within 2 years of start date, and Class C Stormwater Certification within 3 years.
