Controller
The Controller oversees all accounting functions and ensures that the agency's accounting practices, financial records, and reporting systems are in line with policy, regulation, and best practices. This role is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting operations, maintaining fiscal records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and overseeing the preparation of financial reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manages daily operations of the accounting and payroll functions and processes.
- Supervises and evaluates the performance of the Accounting staff.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information for various programs, detailing assets, liabilities, capital, revenues, and expenses.
- Prepares balance sheets, income statements, and other reports to summarize and interpret current and projected financial positions.
- Manages ledger accuracy and ensure timely reconciliation of accounts.
- Prepares monthly and quarterly financial statements.
- Prepares financial grant budgets and reports.
- Manages payroll functions using a computerized payroll service and ensures personnel records are accurately maintained.
- Ensures proper processing of vouchers, A/P invoices, checks, A/R invoices, cash receipts, and reconciliations using a computerized accounting system.
- Completes monthly reconciliation of agency cash and cash equivalent accounts.
- Balances all general ledger accounts against the trial balance.
- Manages fixed assets, including recording of capitalized expenditures, asset disposal, monthly depreciation, and maintenance of fixed asset master listing.
- Manages tax filings, compliance, and audits in accordance with local, state, and federal laws.
- Coordinates debt financing and debt service payments with external agencies.
- Reconciles and manages cash receipts from various online applications and fundraising tools.
- Directs financial audits and provides recommendations for procedural improvements.
- Maintains and manages accurate accounting records in compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines; maintains compliance in conjunction with Human Resources record keeping.
- Maintains confidentiality of all information (staff, client, donor, financial, etc)
- Implements and refines accounting policies to improve efficiency.
- Leads the accounting team, ensuring skill development and adherence to best practices including training and development of accounting staff.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Participates in agency activities that enhance the organization's visibility in the community.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises Finance/Accounting Staff positions (i.e. Accountants, Specialists, etc)
