Position: BUILDING CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR II - OAHU (OHHI)

Recruitment Information

Recruitment Number: OHHI-25031. Immediate vacancies are with the Department of Accounting & General Services in Downtown.

This recruitment is part of the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH‑HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative that fast‑tracks qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawaiʻi.

Salary

Salary: $6,090 to $6,704 per month (SR‑19, Step C to I). Salary includes Shortage Category Differential.

Position Overview

This is full performance level work involving building construction inspection. Inspectors perform a broad range of inspection functions for a variety of construction operations, materials, and methods under varying conditions and requirements. Responsibilities include measuring construction materials, checking construction methods, inspecting the erection of false work and concrete forms, accepting or rejecting forms and materials based on specifications, keeping detailed records, preparing routine inspection reports, preparing monthly progress reports, and performing other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect and measure construction materials used; check methods employed in construction; inspect the erection of false work and concrete forms; accept or reject concrete forms, construction equipment, and materials based on specifications or modifications approved by a higher level inspector.
  • Keep detailed records of work completed and materials used.
  • Prepare and submit routine inspection reports as directed.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports concerning the construction project.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Legal Authorization to Work
    :
    Citizen, national, permanent resident alien, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • General Experience
    :
    Two (2) years Journey level experience in building construction trades, demonstrating knowledge of specialized skills, methodologies, safety requirements, and the ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.
  • Specialized Experience
    :
    One (1) year of either:
    • A. Building construction inspection work experience.
    • B. Supervisory work experience over skilled trades workers in the building construction industry, including responsibility for interpreting plans and specifications and inspecting workmanship and materials for adherence to those plans and specifications.
  • Basic Experience/Education
    :
    Experience demonstrating the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, write simply and directly, and perform arithmetic computations.
  • Driver's License
    :
    Valid driver's license required at the time of appointment.
  • Lift and Carry
    :
    Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Substitutions Allowed
    :
    Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements may apply.
Testing and Interview

The examination for this recruitment will be conducted on an unassembled basis where the score is based on an evaluation of education and experience. In‑person interviews and/or further testing in Hawaiʻi may be required at the discretion of the hiring agency.
