Salary: $5,527 to $6,728 per month (SR-22, Step D to I)
OverviewThese positions are responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, coordinating, and evaluating the activities of an education program of moderate size and scope in a correctional facility, as well as performing educational case management services for inmates comparable to the journey level class of Corrections Education Specialists III, and other related duties as assigned.
ResponsibilitiesThe Corrections Education Specialist III is responsible for independently identifying inmates' educational needs through academic and/or vocational testing and assessment; developing individualized educational plans; coordinating educational activities; monitoring, evaluating, and documenting inmates' progress; and modifying their educational plans as necessary.
Qualifications- Legal Authorization to Work

The State of Hawai‘i requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. - Basic Education
: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four‑year college or university. - General Experience
:
One and one‑half (1–1/2) years of progressively responsible professional teaching experience that involved developing lesson plans and providing instruction, assessing progress, and modifying plans. - Specialized Experience
:
One (1) year of progressively responsible professional teaching experience in a corrections education program which related to legislative mandates, statutes, and the policies of a corrections education program, and knowledge of related community resources and agencies. - Supervisory Aptitude
:
Demonstrated supervisory aptitude or potential may be accepted in lieu of actual supervisory experience. - Substitutions Allowed
:
Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements. - Other Requirements
:

- Has engaged in sexual abuse in a correctional facility or similar institution.
- Has been convicted of or attempted to engage in sexual activity in the community under force, threats, or with an unwilling victim.
- Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in such activity.
- Has been the subject of substantiated allegations or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or harassment.
