Duties Summary
Boating and Ocean Recreation Manager I: district (branch) chief responsible for operationally managing and maintaining a district‑wide boating and ocean recreation program through subordinate staff.
Key responsibilities include:
- Planning, organizing, supervising, coordinating, and promoting operations and activities of the boating and ocean recreation program.
- Reviewing overall boating and ocean recreation activities and developing plans to meet the needs of boating and the general public.
- Operating and maintaining assigned facilities and designated areas.
- Coordinating and implementing boating registration and license/permit systems, and other district programs.
The Division of Boating and Ocean Recreation (DOBOR) manages statewide ocean recreation and coastal area programs, including harbor operations, boat launch ramps, mooring areas, and public beaches. DOBOR regulates commercial ocean activity and administers the state vessel registration & titling program, with a mission to preserve natural and cultural resources, enhance ocean experiences, and provide safe public access to state waters.
MinimumQualification Requirements
Legal Authorization to Work: Citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Education Requirement: Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor's degree. Excess work experience equivalent to such education may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
Specialized
Experience:
Two and one‑half years of progressively responsible professional work experience involving marine or boating related activities that ensure safe use of navigable waters, maintain programs, develop plans, and monitor compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Operational Management
Experience:
One year of professional experience that provided thorough knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and regulations; program goal setting; resource planning; coordinating program activities; developing procedures; and participating in policy determination, budgeting, and execution. Demonstrated ability to oversee service provision, monitor operations, develop improvement strategies, and recommend changes.
License Requirement: Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of appointment.
