Job FunctionSupervises and directs activities related to the Company’s revenue meters. Provides expertise, training, and guidance to maintain electric meter operations.
Essential Functions- Supervises, directs, and monitors workers to test, install, and remove all meters on the Company’s system. This includes administrative functions such as preparing performance appraisals, conducting interviews, disciplinary action, and reviewing timecards.
- Must be available for emergencies after normal working hours.
- Responsible for the safety and training of all subordinates. Trains, directs, and reviews their work and provides refresher training as needed.
- Serves as the contact person responsible for field matters and quality assurance related to electric metering. Assists contractors and electricians in compliance with metering requirements and assists commercial and residential customers with meter compliance issues.
- Performs on‑site field work.
- Detects and deters meter diversion and provides evidence for reimbursement from customers.
- Maintains the meter record system.
- Develops and manages the O&M budget forecast for the section.
- Ensures that the inventory of meters and metering equipment is purchased and managed efficiently.
- Participates in company emergency response activities as assigned, including any required activities to prepare for such response.
- Thorough knowledge of the principles and theories of electrical engineering normally acquired through advanced college level courses required for a BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related work experience.
- Thorough knowledge of electric metering operations and meter work.
- Knowledge of metering standards and the national electrical code.
- Apprenticeship program or equivalent experience.
- Successful completion of a supervisory training course or its equivalent.
- Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures contained in documents such as Company/Union agreement, Accident Prevention Manual, and General Information Manual.
- Working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe systems and related software applications (e.g., spreadsheets, word processing).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Organizational and planning skills to handle various projects and assignments.
- Ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive issues with tact, courtesy, and discretion.
- Supervisory and leadership skills and ability to work with a variety of individuals, occasionally dealing with sensitive or confrontational issues.
- Ability to remain flexible in a demanding work environment and adapt to rapidly changing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills to influence and persuade various groups or individuals.
- Must be able to qualify for a State of Hawaii driver’s license and meet the standards for driving positions as stated in the Hiring Standards for Driving Positions policy.
- Several years (5 or more) of experience in electrical engineering or extensive (10 or more years) related field work experience.
