General Purpose
The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the Store as well as the general operations and supervision of the Store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. They are responsible for opening and closing the Store, supervising Associates, and maintaining a friendly, easy to shop environment. They ensure proper merchandise presentation and maintain a clean work area at all times, as well as executing and supervising Company operational processes as needed.

- Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe shopping environment by correcting or reporting unsafe conditions.
- Responsible for security of building including entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups, and register area.
- Remove clutter and ensure safe, clear egress to emergency exits.
- Ensure customer safety including accident prevention, reporting, and emergency procedures.
- Test fire alarm systems as scheduled; respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
- Treat all customers, associates, and other leaders with respect.
- Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism at all times.
- Recognize associates using company recognition programs.
- Represent and support the company brand at all times.
- Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code and ensure all associates adhere to it.
- Keep all areas of the store clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised to standard.
- Be responsible for daily trash removal.
- Ensure recovery, sizing, and markdowns are completed to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks, and following up per best practices.
- Be responsible for receiving merchandise truck when needed.
- Process all merchandise with a sense of urgency.
- Handle receipt of all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms.
- Assist in delivering and placing merchandise on the sales floor when all merchandise is processed.
- Secure and process any back‑stock according to company policy.
- Merchandise the department including the back stock.
- Reduce loss due to damage.
- Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines in the assigned area.
- Handle floor moves and signing, including promotional signing as needed.
- Perform re‑wraps as needed.
- Understand and comply with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program; maintain a large customer‑service presence on the sales floor and heightened loss‑prevention awareness.
- Demonstrate integrity and honesty in all interactions while safeguarding confidential information, cash, credit‑card information, and merchandise.
- Maintain the Public View Monitor (PVM) system properly.
- Conduct "Code 50" package inspections.
- Execute all company best practices and maximize productivity by minimizing steps and touches.

- Maintain pace, energy, and presence at the front end, managing the line to expedite customer wait time.
- Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control policies, and other front‑end procedures to meet friendly and productivity standards.
- Control retail associates' break schedule for backups, lunches, and breaks.
- Ensure all equipment is working properly.
- Maintain proper supplies and recovery for the front‑end area.
- Ensure go‑backs are expedited, properly scanned, security‑tagged, and ticketed.
- Teach associates the "Scan and Bag" best practice.
- Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end, aisle tables, men’s/women’s 4‑way features, and specialty racks.
- Maintain the maintenance and cleanliness of fitting rooms.
- Audit and account for all fitting‑room garment tags to company policy.
- Ensure go‑back compliance throughout the day; all returned merchandise must be ticketed, scanned, nubbed, and security‑tagged as needed.
