Job OverviewSocial Worker IV roles within the Judiciary’s court programs involve complex cases of juvenile and adult law violators, substance abuse, mental health, domestic violence, and more. The position includes intensive social case work, supervision of a small team, technical consultation, and comprehensive reporting.
Responsibilities- Supervise juvenile law violators, adult law violators, defendants conditionally released from the Hawaii State Hospital, and juvenile status offenders.
- Conduct child custody/visitation evaluations.
- Assist protection order petitioners.
- Assist in child welfare services cases referred to the Family Court.
- Engage family and community in juvenile cases.
- Collaborate with other professionals and community agencies as part of interdisciplinary teams.
- Evaluate and adjust client treatment plans as appropriate.
- Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in social work, social welfare, criminal justice, human services, counseling, psychology, sociology, or related social science.
- Substitution of educational credentials for experience: a master’s degree qualifies for Social Worker III; a Ph.D. qualifies for Social Worker IV.
- Two and one‑half years of progressively responsible professional social work experience.
- Experience must include assessing client needs, developing treatment plans, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and evaluating client progress.
- Non‑qualifying experience does not include supportive roles, benefits eligibility determinations, vocational counseling, or therapy services not performed under professional supervision.
A current and valid driver’s license is required for transportation of clients and staff.
PREA Compliance- Applicants may not have engaged in sexual or violent abuse within a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, or juvenile facility.
- Applicants must not have been convicted of engaging or attempting sexual activity in a community setting involving force or inability to consent.
- Applicants must not have been administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the above activities.
- Applicants must not have been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
Most positions serve as probation officers managing a caseload of clients with adjudicated law violations or status offenses, often involving mental health issues, family conflict, substance abuse, or behavioral problems. Probation officers collaborate with clients to ensure compliance with court orders and provide necessary services.
