Behavioral Health Specialist

We are looking for a Behavioral Health Specialist for our Maui Campus. This position supports our K-12 haumana and will be based on campus. While this position works and functions independently, teamwork and the ability to partner with others is key to success.

In addition to having a solid background providing behavioral health services to the K-12 age population, our ideal candidate will have:

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health or closely related field that meets DCCA educational requirements for clinical licensure.
  • 2-3+ years of experience providing behavioral health services to K-12 aged children.
  • Valid State of HI clinical license (e.g. LMHC, LMFT or LCSW). If not currently licensed, we are willing to consider candidates who have the ability to be licensed within 2 years (BHS I).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • This position has an 11-month work year. Primary work hours would be Mon‑Fri with occasional after‑hours crisis response.
Job Summary

Provides behavioral health services to students individually and in groups. Provides crisis intervention services following established protocols. Responsible for supporting overall well‑being of student. Participates on Student Success Team with responsibility for coordinating development and implementation of student support plans for students identified as needing targeted or intensive supports. Responsible for communicating with families, including home visits, and helping coordinate receipt of off‑campus extended professional services with supports ches classes to students and is a resource to employees on behavioral health related topics.

Assessment

Conducts assessment and provides behavioral health counseling services to students individually and in groups as appropriate. Develops behavioral health counseling goals, monitors progress, and makes referrals as warranted. Monitors and assesses behavior, progress, accountability, health, and safety of students and coordinates with school counselor to address academic and educational supports. Provides crisis intervention services following established protocols, which may occur after‑hours.

Serves as a designated liaison for reporting suspected child abuse or neglect.

Communication and Support

Responsible for supporting overall well‑being of students. Participates on Student Success Team with responsibility for coordinating development and implementation of student support plans for students identified as needing targeted or intensive supports. Responsible for communicating with and supporting families as related to the well‑being of the student, including home visits. Helps with the navigation and coordination of receipt of off‑campus professional services.

Works with off‑campus professionals and students on support plans. Consults with administrators, teachers, and counselors as applicable to provide school‑based supports to optimize student well‑being. Teaches classes to students and is a resource to employees on behavioral health related topics. Facilitates workshops for parents that enhance the social and emotional growth of students.

Additional Responsibilities for Campus Student Residential Community

Provides 24‑hour immediate crisis/emergency intervention services in situations that affect the safety and well‑being of a boarding student. Consults with dormitory advisors to provide school‑based supports to optimize student well‑being. Becomes integrated with the boarding community to support boarding students and the dorm advisors who care for them. Recommends appropriate placement of boarding students to specific dorms to the Director of Boarding and consults periodically with boarding staff.

Travels to the neighboring islands to conduct home visits.
